Technically the U.S. patent, No. 6778101 ( which has been applied  for Internationally ) is called the Emergency Vehicle Warning System. It uses two distinct radio signals, broadcast in all directions by the emergency vehicle, to alert motorists in the vicinity that an emergency exists NEAR THEM and they need to take precautions, slow down, and get out of the way of the vehicle that is responding.

The Patented emergency vehicle alert system warns drivers about emergency vehicles that are near them. It is equally effective whether the emergency vehicle is stopped ahead of them or approaching them from any direction.

One of the important features of this patent is that it is omnidirctional. Drivers approaching a stopped emergency vehicle are warned or alerted in time to avoid having an accident themselves.

Overall, EVA promotes safety and saves life and property by preventing accidents and provides emergency vehicles a clearer right of way.
